What does it mean to design futures from a feminist perspective? How do we practice design in feminist ways? How are the futures of health, work and spaces reshaped when they are approached from an intersectional and LGBTQ+ inclusive feminist perspective?
These were the collective research questions of this year’s MA Service Design students over the course of their Design Futures unit. We invite you to join us in an afternoon filled with future provocations, future policy making, and future space considerations at the Treehouse in Elephant Park, on Friday 5th of June, 4-6pm.
This year, students have been collaborating closely with The Gendered City, FEM.DES Network, Institute of Gender Medicine, Bern University The European Health Futures Forum, The Daughters of Mars, and PILAA, and have explored questions such as: What if our economy focussed on the value of care work and human skills? What if menopause care were destigmatised and treated like fertility care? And what if access to spaces were based on your safety rating or social connections?
We’d like to extend our grateful thanks to this year’s collaborators: Dr. Ope Lori and BJ Woodstein from PILAA, Janet Mitchel and Nura Jahanpour from the European Health Futures Forum and Janet Mitchell Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies (ICFG), University of Bern, Dr Nourhan Bassam and Toby Godfray from The Gendered City and FEM.DES network; Lucy Hope from The Daughters of Mars, as well as to our visiting lecturers this term, Dr Luiza Prado de O. Martins, Dr Georgina Voss, Malina Dabrowska, and Aidan Harris.
The project was led by Prof Silvia Grimaldi and Marion Lagedamont of the Service Futures Lab and MA Service Design, London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.
